When it comes to aging, doing so gracefully is what most of us want. Dysport is one of the many ways you can reduce the signs of aging, slow the production of wrinkles, and gain an overall younger, healthier skin appearance.

What is Dysport?

Dysport is an injectable that reduces the fine lines created by frowning. Dysport, like Botox, is a type of botulinum toxin injection. This halts certain muscle’s abilities to fire, resulting in a reduction of wrinkles and folding of the skin—which over time, can lead to more wrinkles.

How does Dysport work?

Dysport works by limiting the amount of mobility certain muscles have around the injection site. This means your skin cannot be pulled in certain directions, and therefore eliminates wrinkles that form when those specific muscles move.

The active substance in Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a botulinum neurotoxin type A complex, which acts at the level of the neuromuscular junction in the targeted muscle. Dysport® is a neuromuscular blocking toxin which acts to block acetylcholine release at motor nerve ends and reduces muscular spasm.

Dysport treats one main area of the space in particular. The glabellar lines, or frown lines, are vertical lines typically between your eyebrows caused by your muscles pulling your eyebrows together.

With a Dysport injection, these muscles are rendered mostly inactive, resulting in a reduction of lines forming in this area.

What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Both Botox and Dysport are types of botulinum toxin injections designed to reduce muscle use in injected areas. They differ in the potency of trace proteins within each. This makes one more effective than the other for different areas of the face.

Botox is best suited for forehead lines, crows feet, and bunny lines while Dysport is used specifically for glabellar lines between the eyebrows.

Skilled injectors like those at The Derm are able to make recommendations about which is most suitable for each patient.

How long does it take for Dysport results?

Dysport is a relatively fast-acting wrinkle treatment. You can expect to start seeing results in as little as two days.

Keep in mind, however, that this differs from person to person, as every person’s body can react and adjust differently.
