May is skin cancer awareness month and Dr. Amy Brodsky from The Derm in Illinois participated in the successful event by breaking the existing Guinness World Record with a new record of 2,246 participants applying sunscreen simultaneously. The Dillard’s store in Dallas was one of the 15 Dillard’s locations across the country that teamed up to break the record.
Skin cancer impacts one in five people by the age of 70 according to a study published in Arch Dermatol. According to Dr. Amy Brodsky more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined.
“It is important to apply sunscreen before going out for your daily activities and to reapply throughout the day,” Brodsky said.
Annual skin exams are recommended for all ages according to Brodsky who is also the founder of Pediatric Sun Protection Foundation, Inc. a non-for-profit organization promoting the use of sunscreen.
